Food standards restrict options for tank lining

A change in food standards led Eurotank to seek an alternative material for a tank lining at a food processing facility.

The customer approached Eurotank to help them lengthen the life of a tank for storing hexane, which they use to extract vegetable oils from seeds.

Jack Aplin, Eurotank’s Group Sales Director, said: “We initally offered the same system we had used a few years ago but a change in regulations meant that the materials in that lining were no longer allowed.”

Eurotank engaged our supplier, which embarked on a mission to find an alternative that didn’t contain bisphenols and phthalates, and the new lining was finally installed by Eurotank.

The Director of our supplier said: “During an extensive research and development phase we carefully examined hundreds of film samples and were able to identify a unique co-extruded film that meets the highest standards. This innovative film combines outstanding flexibility with exceptional durability, while providing superior barrier properties and full compliance with food safety requirements.

“Achieving this result required a comprehensive testing programme carried out in close co-operation with leading institutes.”
