Manned-entry tank cleans for major fuel terminal

Eurotank Environmental has spent five weeks cleaning five, 27-metre-tall atmospheric Jet A1 aviation fuel storage tanks at a fuel terminal.

The operation began with a careful uplift of the fuel through a polishing unit, transferring it to a secure holding tank. Once the tanks were emptied, the team tackled the challenging residues at the bottom, before jet-washing the floors with a hot wash unit designed to cut through stubborn waste.

A twin-pot, high-powered vacuum tanker played a crucial role in separating solid waste from the washings — a process that not only streamlined disposal but also significantly reduced costs for the customer.

Greg Wyatt, Eurotank’s Group Technical Sales Manager, said: “The project was completed on time and the team was praised by the customer for their professional delivery and assisting other contractors on site by providing a confined space rescue team while other work was being carried out.”

Eurotank’s tanker capacity is 18,000 litres in total – 10,000 for the waste pot and 8,000 clean capacity. The tanker loaded up with waste throughout the week, tipping on a Friday. Four or five tonnes of waste were removed from each tank.
